A Menace on Mankato Roads: 3rd DUI Charge in a Year

Fairfield Mankato Leader

(Mankato, MN) – For the third time in just over a year, a 33-year-old Mankato man stands accused of drunk driving.

Police say Asad Ahmed Farah was pulled over just before 2:00am on March 12th after his car was spotted weaving all over Glenwood Avenue near Pohl Road. The complaint says his blood alcohol level was .18, more than twice the legal limit.

In February of 2017, Farah was drunk when he nearly hit a woman and her dog – and then crashed his vehicle into Minnesota Halal Meat & Grocery just off North Riverfront Drive. The broken windows were boarded up and covered with paper hearts, as a show of support for the Somali-owned business, as there were false initial claims that it must have been a hate crime.

Six weeks before that, Farah was arrested for drunk driving after police found his car abandoned in a yard and stuck in some trees near the Holiday gas station on North Riverfront. In that case, Farah took off on foot and when detained by the responding officer, Farah allegedly told the cop “You are an idiot. F*ck you!”

More recently, Farah was convicted in August of 2017 for “disorderly conduct-fighting.” He’s on probation for that and the previous DUIs and among the conditions is no use of alcohol.
