Brown County Jury Takes 8 Minutes: Guilty of Prostitution with a Minor

(New Ulm, MN) – There was no doubt for a Brown County Jury considering the case of a man caught in a local underage sex sting.

After deliberating for just 8 minutes, the jury today returned a verdict of guilty for “prostitution with a minor” against 70-year-old Lawrence Depyper. Depyper will be sentenced next month.

Assistant Brown County Attorney Dan Kalk, who prosecuted the case, said it’s encouraging to know that these stings are helping to protect local communities from “those that would otherwise prey on children.”

Depyper was one of eight men arrested during the operation last August in the town of Springfield. When the suspects corresponded with undercover investigators they were told that the girl was 16 years old.

Among the others was 40-year-old James Robert Wallace of Madelia (pictured below). Wallace’s case is still working its way through the courts.
