(Mankato, MN) – A 61-year-old Madison Lake man allegedly stole people’s mail while he worked as a Postal Service contract employee based out of Mankato.

David Dean Maine is charged with 14 felony counts of mail theft. He’s due to make his first court appearance in April.

According to the complaint, Maine took Menards merchandise credit checks from the mail stream that were to be delivered to at least 15 different people. He then redeemed them for his own personal gain. The checks totaled nearly $700 and were stolen between November 2016 and April 2017.

The hometowns of the victims that were identified included Waterville, Eagle Lake, Elysian and Kilkenny.

Police say video surveillance shows Maine using the stolen checks, but he has denied the accusations. Police also say that they found marijuana and a pipe in his mail truck during the course of their investigation.
