(Mankato, MN) – Those who have been patiently waiting for the planned HuHot Mongolian Grill in Mankato will need to set their hopes aside indefinitely.
Brendan Crowley with Franchise Restaurant Concepts Group says “We were never able to execute the lease in Mankato, so the store will not be happening at this time.” The HuHot was to be constructed in a section of the Shopko parking lot.
Crowley says they were excited about bringing a HuHot to Mankato, so this was a “disappointment in our eyes” and “hopefully we can someday get one open in your area!”
Meantime, there are options for those looking for a new place to dine in Mankato.
Buffalo Wings and Rings, the first of its kind in Minnesota, opened last month at the site of the former Old Country Buffet. BWR has dozens of TVs and a menu which includes burgers, sandwiches, salads, quesadillas, and their signature wings.
Along Madison Avenue, construction is underway on a new 7 West Taphouse. It’s being built at the site of the former Eatery Tap and is expected to be open late this summer or early fall.
There are also plans for a new craft brew pub just west of the Hy-Vee gas station downtown and NōlaBelle will be coming to South Front Street. There are also plans for The Rooftop Bar + Kitchen at the site of the former Cenex gas station in lower North Mankato.
A & W has also confirmed to SMT that they are actively working on a location in Mankato, but all the documentation in not yet in place to announce where it’ll be and when it’ll open.
In “help wanted” ads from earlier this summer, it was said that the A&W would be located in the food court at the River Hills Mall.
There are currently just a handful of A&W restaurants serving up “All American Food” in southern Minnesota, in places like Faribault, Hayfield, Rochester, Spring Valley and Winona.
Last spring, the more than 600 A&W restaurants nationwide again started making their own root beer. That had been done in the past, but mostly abandoned in recent years in the name of an easier, bag-in-the-box variety.
