New Ulm Man Killed in Highway 14 Head-On Crash Identified

Buffalo Wings Leader

(Courtland, MN) – Authorities have now identified the 41-year-old man killed in a car crash Wednesday morning on Highway 14 at Courtland.

The State Patrol says Michael John Reinarts of New Ulm suffered fatal injuries when his eastbound van collided head-on with a westbound pickup just before 8:00 am. Highway 14 was ice covered at the time of the crash. Reinarts’ airbag did deploy and he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Reinharts’ passenger, 31-year-old Austin Allen Cooper of New Ulm, and the pickup driver, 68-year-old Charles Henry Elder of Mankato, were both taken to the New Ulm Medical Center. The State Patrol says the injuries to Elder and Cooper are non-life threatening.

The investigation into the details of the fatal crash is ongoing, but the preliminary findings indicate that Elders lost control of his pickup/trailer and crossed the centerline.

Assisting at the scene were Courtland Fire, Nicollet Fire, Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office and Allina Ambulance.
