(Mankato, MN) – What started out as a weekend of green in Greater Mankato turned into one of orange jumpsuits for more than a half-dozen people.
A check of the jail rosters in Blue Earth and Nicollet counties shows that at least seven motorists were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving between Friday and Sunday.
The St. Patrick’s Day holiday weekend is historically the third busiest for DUIs statewide, behind only Labor Day and the Fourth of July.
In Minnesota, 1 in 7 licensed drivers has a DUI on their record. Of those, 266,000 have two or more. That includes one driver, 65-year-old Danny Lee Bettcher of New York Mills, who has been arrested for drunk driving 28 times.
Bettcher is currently in the prison in St. Cloud after being sentenced earlier this year for his latest drunk driving conviction. His anticipated release date is September 28th of 2020.
