(St. Peter, MN) – No need for alarm when you hear the tornado drills blare across southern Minnesota and statewide Thursday.
Two tornado drills are being held as part of severe weather awareness week. The first drill will be at 1:45pm, intended for institutions and businesses. The second will be at 6:45pm, intended for families and second shift workers.
According to the National Weather Service, Minnesota experiences an average of 40 tornadoes per year. The record is 104 tornadoes statewide, set in 2010.
Officials say the drills are a great opportunity to make and practice your emergency plan and build or refresh your emergency preparedness kit. SMT’s emergency kit is just a vanilla scented Yankee Candle and a jug of whiskey, but you may want something more comprehensive.
