(Mankato, MN) – The National Weather Service says if current predictions hold true, the winter storm bearing down on a large swath of Minnesota will be an historic one.
Showers and thunderstorms most of the day will transition from rain and freezing rain to heavy snow tonight into Saturday evening. Total accumulations of 8 to 15 inches are expected in the main corridor through parts of southern and central Minnesota, with some totals of 18 inches in southwest Minnesota not ruled out.
Forecasters say travel may become impossible Friday night, with some improvement possible during the daylight hours Saturday. Downed tree branches and power outages are also possible.
